[Chloe grins, rolling her eyes, but the thought of running for their lives, Derek covered in blood, kind of killed the mood. His next words finalized that.]

Okay, appreciation given. Playing field. Even. [Chloe leans to the side, swinging one leg up and over until she is situated on the bed next to him, legs crossed as she gets down to business.]

Sollux may have a contact to talk to concerning a dead body in the forest. [pointed look here] He's going to do some digging, and maybe find where the body is, if anyone took anything from it, and if anyone can lead us back to it if the answer is no."

[He's not allowed to feel disappointed when she moves away, especially since he was the one that brought up their actual reason for meeting. He smirks at her a bit at her comment.]

Well, we wanted to explore the forest after the sand storm, anyway. If no one can lead us there-

I might be able to find it. Depending on how long it's been out there. But, uh. Let's hope someone's either got something you can use, or can get us out there without having to hunt for it.

[Chloe rolls her eyes at that little comment, but her grin shows she won't back down from a challenge any time soon.]

Sollux said he might be able to find someone to lead us there. Someone who went out before. If we have to, we can looks for it the old fashioned way, but I agree. It'll be better to have someone lead the way. We don't know how big the forest is. And it will probably be dangerous.

[His hand moves automatically over her knee, thumb absently rubbing circles against her leg.]

From what I've heard, yeah. It is. The deer shouldn't be too much of a problem, but the rest of it? We'll have to be on our guard.

[For a brief moment, he wonders if it wouldn't be better to go in wolf form when they make the trip, but. He'd rather be able to talk during it.]

I'd rather spend as little time in there as possible. If someone can lead us there, that works for me. Did he say who?

It's someone I don't know, but he says he trusts him enough to be of help if things go wrong. It was oddly worded.

[He vaguely remembers seeing someone named Kevas commenting around in the journals, but Derek's never spoken to him.]

I guess being of help if things go wrong is a good thing. It'll be easier to have two people to keep an eye out while you and Sollux try to talk to this guy.

[He's still not really sure he likes it, but he does have to admit it's probably the best option.]

She's organizing a group of people who don't serve our host. She called it something of a militia.

M-m-militia? [Chloe didn't know what to think, at first. She stares, then slowly calms. She chooses her next words carefully.]

S-so... i-it's like a group that finds information? Protects each other? Wh-what?

[Sure, part of her is afraid something will happen, but she knows Derek. This could be really good for him. Still, she doesn't know whether she should be reluctant or excited. Admittedly, she was kind of intrigued.]

O-o-oh! [So he wasn't up and moving into the guard tower?] I'm confused. I'd love to help out. You know I would. I'm not you, though. I-I don't have super strength, or super senses. I can't change shape into some other animal to defend others. I-- [Deep breath, Chloe. No pity party, remember.] I haven't even been able to summon.

I'd love to help, and if you have any idea how I can, let me know. [She sends him a look before he opens his mouth.] And not the kind of help that keeps me out of whatever is going on.
