I'm a .45 man myself, so you're preachin' to the choir on that one my friend. If ever we get a chance to trade tales in person, I've got a few for you that proves it's not the hardware but the person who wields it.
I know that I prefer the snub nose 6 shot .38 that we have over the 9mm glock. I'm *much* more accurate and feel more comfortable handling it.
That said, there's also a long rifle in the house and I know how to fire "properly" but also know as it is loaded with shot, I can fire it from my hip in the direction I need it to go and I can then GET AWAY.
And while the fiance is not currently an instructor at his facility, he has been. So I will say that I feel very well trained and comfortable. I had *never* fired anything before, but once he moved in with me, well, if it's in my house I want to know how to use it.
That is my dear old Dad's defensive weapon of choice (except it is a 5 shot), an S&W Chiefs Special to be precise. He is deadly accurate with it (at 77 y.o.a)one handed and one eyed, it really is quite disgusting.
