I honestly see better catches every damn week. It's just becaue it's the Yankees that anyone notices. (And they don't have that many defensive plays to talk about this year, do they?)

Not only am I tired of hearing about how impressive Jeter is for doing stuff like that but I am also shaking my head and going "Jeter YOU IDIOT, you could BREAK YOUR NECK SOMEDAY AND BE PARALYZED OR CONCUSSED INTO OBLIVION doing that shit all the time!!!" I am seriously concerned for the man's well-being when I see him do that type of play. Or any other player for that matter. I mean, running into the wall a la Jim Edmonds (hey, there's another player who doesn't get his props enough for awesome catches!) is great but there's a good and a bad way to take risks and Jeter always seems to be doing it the bad way lately. /rant

I worry that kids will see what he's doing and be like "OMG, I'm going to run face-first into a bunch of chairs like JEET! Because the guys on ESPN tell me that makes you a REAL ballplayer!" And saying that makes me feel horribly old, but Jesus. No, Jeter is not special for being clumsy. He's a great clubhouse guy and a decent shortstop. (Note that I didn't say OMG BEST EVER SHORTSTOP. They have a better SS at third base.) But congratulating every time he gives himself a concussion? No. Just no.

I think your speaking such heresy just set off a minor earthquake in the mid-Atlantic Ridge. A small price to pay, though, for daring to tell the truth. :-)

that's exactly what i thought when i saw the running-into-the-stands play last year. everyone was oohing and ahhing about it and i was like, if you break your damn arm chasing down a foul ball i'ma laugh my ass off, boy.
