Do yourself a favour: Open this page and let the free streaming audio provide a soundtrack as you read this fascinating article.

I have a little scratchpad on which I jot down ideas for stories; this article has inspired no less than three separate entries.

I wonder if he would have had more of a receptive audience had he been playing during the evening rushhour?

...or classic rock!

Still, wish I was there. Though I cannot tell one classical piece from the next, I do like to listen to it... especially with violins.

Yeah, London always had some great tube musicians when I was there.

I think I'll pick up some of his music... it's quite good!

I've wondered what I would have done if I were a commuter. Given my job, I afford a few minutes.

I went to college in a city that had a great college for musicians, so around Christmas you'd be treated to string quartets in the metro. But I wouldn't have listened with any interest until someone said, "listen to this--this is really good."

I wonder what Joshua Bell thought about it. Must be a head turn.

Your set-up was magnificent, by the way. Thanks--it was great to drink my coffee, read the piece, and listen to beautiful music.

Bell seems like a cool cat; his comments within the article impressed me.

We have a lot of street performers here in Windsor, playing it up for the 19-21 year old drinkers that come over on the weekends. Most of the performers are pretty awful, unfortunately. My friend Zdenek, who you may remember me writing about here, used to play his flute for change, too. Made a pretty penny doing it too, sometimes.

I have to admit that I'd probably keep going as well, but I've heard some very good musicians on the subway and although I didn't stop, I did try to enjoy the moments that they'd given me.

I remember going to see a fairly popular Toronto band on a Friday night at the Horseshoe Tavern (?) on Queen and then seeing the same singer/guitarist playing in the subway station for my change on my way to work on Monday. Can't recall the name of the band... Dakota something.
