It's not surprising, actually. There have been mathematical studies done to try to predict the most recent common ancestor for all of humanity. The finding was that, mathematically speaking, the most recent common ancestor was probably sometime between 300 AD and 600AD. Anyone who lived before that either had no descendants (about forty percent of them ) or every human being on the planet is their descendant (the remaining 60%.) I'm not sure it's entirely accurate - there may be a few isolated tribes here and there who haven't mixed enough with outside tribes to be contaminated withe their genetics - but for the rest of us, the prophet Mohammad probably is an ancestor for most people, simply because we KNOW he has some descendents and he lived long enough ago that his gene pool has spread over most, if not all, of humanity.
