While reading this passage, I was dreaming of a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (« Forêt noire » in French).
Speaking of cooking, when I imagine Francis and Ludwig in a restaurant or Francis cooking something for Ludwig, I always think of an Alsatian dish, a baeckeoffe (of course, it contains potatoes !).

I just reread this and I still adore it. Especially the bit in 4 where Ludwig is thinking of all the things he loves about Francis - that's what *real* love is to me, when you really know a person, their strengths and vulnerabilities, when you want to make them happy, and they make you want to be *better*. You capture that so beautifully.

I'm actually travelling right now; So I'll be a lot slower responding than I usually would be, but if you want to send me a copy of this (ijargowsky AT gmail DOT com) I'd be happy to polish the rough spots before you post it to the main comm - and you definitely should.
