So i am sure that most if not all of you have heard about the Watchmen movie that is in the making. Or was. Not sure on that, heard a few rumors that it was canceled but the website lists nothing of the sort... I digress. Anyway, after seeing the trailer i became extremely curious as to what it was actually about. It is of course based off of the ( Read more... )

If I thought V for Vendetta was pretentious and implausible, would I hate Watchmen?

Maybe? I never read the graphic novel for it, though i did like the movie.
Watchmen seems much more realistic than V for Vendetta did. Possible because it is based in America with historical characters. Still has the implausibility that all comic books have though.
I'd still recommend giving it a chance.

The novel for V for Vendetta wasn't as enjoyable as the movie for me, but I'm in the minority. The imprisonment sequence was akin to brainwashing, V's identity, gender, and even sexual preference were layers upon layers of ambiguous. The political message conveyed by Moore goes to great lengths to advocate anarchy rather than the simply struggling against and oppressive oligarchy.

For the record, Moore hates movie adaptations of his work due to the liberties taken. Which works out fine because the stuff people like his the stuff he doesn't have creative control over.

Watchmen pretty much coined the concept of superhero deconstruction. That said, it's not my preferred genre, I have a strong dislike of Alan Moore (his latest original work is essentially lesbian slash fiction starring Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, Alice from Through the Looking Glass, and Wendy from Peter Pan), and Rorschach aside, I hate Watchmen. Plus have you ever seen him? He looks like colorblind hobo that dresses like a Circus ringleader.

That said, I'll still be in the audience two weeks after opening.
