The gorgeous red trees are Liquid Amber's....they grow quite well here and do the turn red/gold and drop thing here too.
One day, when I own a house, I'm planting one in my front lawn. (No I don't care how difficult it will be to mow around)

be careful, as LiquidAmber 'drops' prickly little things as seeds... we used to use them [when the kids were in Kindy] for Xmas decorations.
not nice to walk on in bare feet! ;/

And yes, it was worth it. :D Those people are paragliding though, not hanggliding like the really kids (i.e., me). :p

the screams from the people floating down was 'interesting'. I take it you weren't among that type?
the man feeding the gulls is my favourite too...... I was playing with the new toy, and using 'sport' mode [i.e. I cheated]. this was the 4th in the sequence the camera took.
most of the ones I still have to download come under the 'fleeting photos' description: shot through the windscreen as the car was doing 100km/hr. =(
the little camera had it's workout too, it still lives oin my handbag

Some of my best shots have been taken at 100km/h through a car window! :D

There are a lot of memories there for me. Although I haven't spent much time in Queenstown - compared to other places - it still holds some very interesting memories.
Mercifully, I can get Central Otago Pinot Noirs and Pinot Grissssss (not sure how many esses that should have so I thought I'd ladle them on just in case! - and I call myself a writer too!) here so that lessens the pain of being so far away quite well.
