A short story about a lot of confusion and mixed feelings and other stuff aka Fringe

Mar 25, 2012 14:01

I watched Fringe.

For anyone who hasn't watched it, I have four nonspoilery points that sum up my reaction to the episode.

1. ALL THE CONTINUITY AWARDS TO FRINGE <3
2. LINCLON YOUR FUCKING FACE WHAFOESPSEESOP
3. alsdfjl;dgksddsfjdksf
4. A lot and I mean a LOT of mixed thoughts.

That's everything in four points. Without spoilers.

Spoilers under the cut.

Spoilers! And a lot more mixed thoughts and feelings that I haven't really sorted or figured out entirely yet even after spending all morning thinking about it so come talk about this episode with me cause talking to myself doesn't help )

ruminating outloud, synergistic obsession, taken with epiphanies, tv: fringe

So I've only seen the first 10 episodes of this season so far, but I had been kind of worried the show was going to do this. I know I'm probably biased because I actually came to like Lincoln more so than Peter, but I thought the show was at a point where it could do some really interesting explorations of relationships, or maybe not even really do relationships for a while and it could just be awesome people working together and doing stuff, and it sounds like they... well, haven't done that. Sadface.

Yeah, they started to explore it a lot more, but uh. Last episode, we go a giant Polivia Is Predestined To Happen and it's sort of become the Polivia Show as opposed to the Olivia Dunham Show.

Personally, I ship Olivia/Happiness, which just happens to be Olivia/Lincoln right now, but feofs. But it's sort of starting to make me wonder where this is all starting to go, and to what end.

I am just... hashing out my thoughts. I have many of them. Part of it is heartbreaking yeah, but I kind of feel like... what better solution was there? You feel that there were Lincoln/Olivia hints that are now a waste, but wouldn't three seasons of explicit Peter/Olivia down the drain have been far more of a waste? (Shipping preferences aside, I mean looking at the integrity of the show ( ... )

I think my main issue with it is entirely in how Olivia treated the situation, and how the narrative treated it (especially later on down the road, where it was basically just tossed off into another universe and then cut out entirely). It bothered me in that Olivia, who was supposed to be a compassionate, empathetic individual, would be so in love to the extent she wouldn't have noticed that Lincoln was not dealing with the change so abruptly. And that Peter was the one to actually talk it over with him with no mention or hint that Olivia even considered it at all really nagged me, especially the lack of regard to Nina/Walter/basically everyone ( ... )
