YES. It was like "Here are the Ponds. Watch them fight in the midst of a more interesting plot because they aren't actually involved in the episode so we need something else for them to do on their own."
I feel like Eleven is an almost constantly manipulative person, who while does technically have good end goals in life, never gets any strafe or anything about the means that he uses to achieve his goals, which, like you said, involved putting his companions in undue peril. And the only person who calls him out on it, rarely, is Rory. And even that seems to have gone away, mostly.
guess how wrong I was in watching what was given to me and then interpreting it -.-
Apparently, we are not really supposed to infer things from what we see on the screen, but instead, simply let Moffat lead us down the way of how the plot is supposed to go. Because whatever you think, it will always be wrong even if it makes more sense and would make for a better ( ... )
