I'm horrible at juggling, I hate juggling and I hate abstracts. Apparently my abstract too much of 'we took A, hurled it at R, G, E, F, N and I to see where it went splat' and needs more 'jargon jargon jargon jargon jargon'. Either way, never joining a circus.
That (or this? Does the continuity of the week still continue on?) was a pretty miserable

I voted for PI, OB, BNP, because "don't ask me for a letter" seems like a very odd thing to be sarcastic about. I don't know him or the context, though, so if you think he was joking then go for it.
Based on your summaries, it sounds like you've broached the idea of rec letters to all of these candidates, and both your old boss and your "big name professor" responded positively-- I'd even venture to say that, given they've told you their availability, they're probably expecting to be asked. Ask them ASAP! I wouldn't worry about your BNP being in a slightly different field-- just emphasize the skills you learned/ exhibited that carry over.

Yeah, it was a very deadpan sort of comment, so I'm not sure if he was being serious, or if sarcastic. I may have to ask him if BNP doesn't get back to me/ends up not being able to do it. BNP is the only one with a sort of deadline, so hopefully he'll actually respond in a timely manner to my email.

The only issue in asking both of them is that I don't actually get to keep one in reserve, but I've gone for asking BNP first and waiting for his response before asking the DC.
