i've actually stopped watching the show recently - it's been more guilty than pleasure :/ but well, i'll probably start watching again because steve&danny are just impossible to resist ... gah. anyway, i really really liked this.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! And yes, I also stopped watching and then was lured back in because of Danny and Steve ... it's awful.

America, Fuck Yeah

Yes, exactly! - the torture of bad guys, the fetishization of the military with a really creepy sort of patriotism - it's so unpleasant and it makes it impossible for me to just lose myself in the pretty and the squee.

And yeah, I avoided the show after the first few episodes because I was so frustrated, but then I got sucked back in (in my case, because Steve and Danny are so adorable and they remind me so much of my beloved Starsky & Hutch).

Anyway, I'm really glad that you enjoyed the vid - thank you so much! And yes, that Rwanda scene was awful, wasn't it? And it was presented like this made Steve a hero - because he was Getting Tough or whatever, which is what makes it all so terrible - they do these things, and the show makes it seem funny and heroic.

Oh, I'm glad it's not just me. I find the show very pretty and the banter is fun, but I don't really get the whole excessive use of force thing. I mean searching a room without a warrant, breaking something, holding someone without charge... these are things I could see as expedient means that normal police can't use, but the violence almost always seems totally unnecessary and they enjoy it and make quips about it... Do not like those bits. :(

Nice vid though! :D

No, totally not just you - I stopped watching for a while because I couldn't stand all of the violence, and the way the show glamorized it. It keeps me from completely enjoying the show - I'm constantly cringing over it. I'm glad you liked the vid, thanks!

Yeah, I agree that the problem with H50 is that the violence is glamorized. On SVU, for example, I don't remember the episode you mention, but Stabler is shown as having a record of violence and a problem with anger, and this creates a problem for his career, for his ability to deal with suspects - it's not seen as a good thing. And plenty of other shows, as well, may show police brutality, but this is also shown as being a problem in some way. H50 has shown it as being something of a joke - it's exciting, it's effective, and Danny and Steve laugh and joke about it.

I agree that it's a little better later in the season, but there are still scenes - including scenes that appeared after I made the vid - that made me cringe. I do hope they improve next season.

Anyway, I'm very glad you liked it- thanks!

I do not really have to say anything that hasnt been said before in the comments/by you. police brutality and specialy the nessary "heroic" violence that is presented even as the joke/slapstick is something we should continue to critic (i liked teh show for a while. i still rewatch some of it sometimes. because it has beautiful female characters and characters of colour and great relationships but i really dont like the work they are doing)
thanks for making this video
