procrastination - my best friend

May 16, 2006 03:15

I have decided that procrastination and sloth are my best friends of late. I come home from taking one of the ill to the doctor's and sit down at the computer to play mahjong or sit on the porch with Sam while telling myself, I will start on the myriad of things that need to be done in just a few minutes. I have even tried to bargain with myself ( Read more... )

It's sounding like you are trying to tell yourself to rest - that you have enough on your plate. From the point of view of the casual observer, you are doing enough for 2 people and when you get home you are trying to tell yourself that you need a break. There will come a time when you look around and things will have reached critical mass and you really don't have any clean clothes to wear or dishes to eat out of and then you will deal with that. But until then take a few moments to relax and enjoy that silly bird - its a gift that you give to yourself.

Lord 'a mercy. I could have written that. Well, except for the cat and the cardinal. I'd sit and watch the cardinal by the hour, too. My problem is frustration when I try to straighten things up. It becomes a vicious circle: must clean this, but must clean that so this can be put where it belongs, etc. Takes about five minutes for me to be backin front of the computer.

Honey, you are dealing with a lot of stuff. Do what must be done, and be kind to yourself. When you are naked you'll have a good reason to stay in bed while the washer runs.

I'm thinking that if anyone needs some time to sit still and relax, it's you! Sometimes sloth and procrastination can be good for you. :)

I've been dealing with some of the same issue. Recently a friend chastised me because she feels I really need to be doing something. She had all kinds of suggestions about making one of my hobbies into a source of self-employment.

I told her I was doing something and I really am. I am simply being.

So maybe it's just a semantics thing - you are not procrastinating, nor are you being a sloth. You are simply BEING.

It works for me - maybe it will work for you too.

Hugs to you dear one. See you next weekend!
