Cats own us. My George (King George) meows when he wishes to be placed upon my bed, and when he wants to get down. Complains loudly if a single piece of food has fallen in his water dish, or if there is not quite enough food in his bowl (only half full = not good enough). If he wants petting he will sit beside you and headbutt you constantly until you catch on. If he wants the space you are sitting in, he will nudge you with his paw until you become annoyed and move, thus allowing him to stretch out.

I think we live with cats, not own them. They are inconsiderate roommates who do not pay rent and make you do their dishes. Shame they are so lovable, exactly when you need them.

Don't count them out for the lack of thumbs. My little Spectre tries to pick up food with one of his paws and eat from it. Sometimes he succeeds.

Also, both of our babies come when whistled for, follow us to bed when we retire, and even squawk at us when we're past our bedtime. I think it's time for the little ingrates to go out and get jobs.
