Update-like things

Apr 05, 2013 10:52

Since I logged into this journal this morning, I thought maybe I'd go ahead and do a little update, though I think fewer and fewer people are on LJ these days. Have you all left for Dreamwidth and Tumblr for all your fandom needs these days? Have you all just left fandom altogether? If I'm honest, I really miss fandom a lot, but there is nothing ( Read more... )

Hi girly! Good to see you post! Olivia is precious and I enjoyed reading what y'all are up to. My son is 17 months and into everything. He isn't talking yet but we are working on that.

I don't really post on my journal anymore but I do miss some of the people on here. Life just got in the way. ;(

Hollyest! I actually check your journal when I log in over here to make sure I haven't missed any updates about your gorgeous kiddo! I can't believe he's nearly a year and a half already! Are you loving it? The older Olivia gets, the more fun we have together.

I miss everyone here, too. Life does get in the way, and it seems that a lot of people have fallen away from LJ anyway. I'm definitely more active on Facebook so my family can see pictures of Olivia.

I still read here, even though I rarely post. Most of my friends have moved on. I'm not active in any fandoms right now. I fiddle around Tumblr and Twitter and stuff. You don't make friends in those places like here, so I do kinda miss the fun that was had around LJ... but such is life? :)

I read this LJ about twice a month, though I read my other LJ almost daily. I miss the interaction around here, but it does seem like a lot of people have drifted from LJ and fandom altogether. Twitter and Tumblr are difficult places to make friends, unfortunately. Facebook mostly makes me want to stab people I actually know and had no idea they were so dumb. Oh, the good old days of LJ...

He is definitely a handful but it's getting easier. We are really just struggling with this no talking thing at the moment. He is getting evaluated May 1st so hopefully that will go alright. Would you mind friending me on facebook? I would love to keep up with your family! I am Holly Graves over there. I don't post a lot either so I wouldn't clog up your news feed. ;)

Most people who had babies around the time I did were dreading the walking thing, but I thought that was great. The talking will come - he's still so little! My nephew didn't talk much until he was around three, and now he's six, and he's articulate as hell and NEVER STOPS TALKING. I totally wouldn't worry about it.

I will totally add you on Facebook, Hollyest! I'll add you from my other LJ, too, just in case you pop in once in a while. I post a bit on Facebook, mostly pictures of Olivia for my family.

Do you have stairs at home? We do and have to keep Christian away because he goes nuts about climbing them. He hasn't quite figured out getting back down safely...lol. I know his talking will come and really think he is being stubborn. He was so used to being given everything and now we are having to break that habit.

I will be sure to log in on the computer and friend your other journal back! I cannot seem to figure out how on this lj app. ;(

We don't have stairs, no, and every time we go to my in-laws' house I'm SO NERVOUS that Olivia will break her arm falling down the stairs because she HAS to go up them. She can get up fine, and I'm sure she'd do okay coming down, but it makes me nervous. The climbing of the playground equipment has begun in earnest, too, and that shit is killing me. I'm only five feet tall, which is entirely too short to be able to help her climb well!

Aw, poor little guy! He just wants what he wants without having to tell you. Olivia has always been a big talker - not surprising, right? Has Christian's hearing been checked, or will they do that when he's evaluated? I have a friend on my other LJ whose son wasn't saying much, and they found he needed tubes in his ears, which has helped his speech improve. I think they all just do things in their own time. I've noticed that even though Olivia talks a lot, her motor skills are on the slower side of normal for some things. I think it all evens out more or less by the time they're three or four.

Ah the playground...lol. Christian is more interested in eating the rocks right now. Luckily I am tall enough to help him when the time comes for climbing.

I actually hear about a lot of girls talking sooner than boys. I just hate these guidelines that our kids are supposed to fall in and how they are labeled as "delayed" for not following them.  They seem to be more strict for speech too and how kids should be saying one word by 12 months but they can walk anywhere from 9 to 15ish.

Yes we did get his hearing checked. We took him to his pediatrician first and had a major meltdown. Apparently he hates having things stuck in his ears. We were referred to a pediatric ent and had him tested there. He did a lot better there and didn't like it but we kept stuffing snacks in his mouth and blowing bubbles. Haha.  Luckily his hearing is just fine and he didn't need tubes. I had been worried about that too.

Yeah, rocks are popular with Olivia, too, as are sticks and dirt and weeds. Thankfully, we've moved on from the everything goes in the mouth stage ( ... )

I think Christian is finally getting over putting crayons in his mouth. We don't like rainbow poops! Speaking of, how is potty training going? I have tried to start introducting Christian to his toilet in the past week but he is scared of it right now. Poor thing ( ... )

Potty learning is going pretty well! Olivia's got the pee-in-the-potty thing down. She still gets diapers for nap and bed, but otherwise she's in underpants at home, and she keeps her pullups dry if we go out. She even peed on the big potty at Grandma's twice on Sunday, which I thought she'd balk at. I think we bought her little potty somewhere around 18 months, and she'd sit on it once in a while for fun, but I decided to wait until I thought she'd be ready instead of pushing it too early and having us both get frustrated if she didn't get it ( ... )
