about the latest lj nuisances

Years ago, back when DW first got off the ground, I was as excited as anyone to make an account and transfer over there. And then I realized how much I hate the access/subscribe thing ( Read more... )

I have an account on DW, but never use it. I don't think I've ever posted anything there.

Depsite LJ buggering up all the time, this is where my friends and my communities are. If I go over there, it would be a major pain in the ass to try and locate everyone, not to mention not everyone is going over there.

However, I should probably back up my LJ over there, since who knows how much longer LJ will be around, the way things are going.

*nodnods!!* I think it was especially a nuisance to recreate everything a while back, when fewer people had made the move, but it's still overwhelming--a pain in the ass, for sure.

On the other hand backing things up was pretty easy. I don't think it's something to worry about, per se? Like, no hurry; I think LJ will make it. But yeah, that's one of the most handy features of DW so far as I've been concerned.

This sums up my feelings nicely. I have a DW account I never use.

I'm glad to hear that! Hurray for not being alone on it--AND hurray for having the ability to make the move when we're ready. Fence-sitting = the best of both worlds? *g*

I'm pleased to know I'm not the only person who just doesn't mesh with the DW model.

Are we fence-sitting, or are we gathering data about disparate fan culture models and using it to build anthropological profiles, so that one day in the future we can make an informed choice about who can best provide for our ticky box needs?

I feel like I could have written this post too. I will post at DW but it's not my primary place of being. I support the concept and will continue to do so, but LJ is still where I consider home. I may regularly cross post from DW but I'm still staying at LJ. I just don't know if I want to continue to have a paid account here.

Right, exactly--I support the concept wholeheartedly! Just, practically, it isn't for me yet.

A paid DW and unpaid LJ account seems like a useful compromise, until I'm ready. Good idea!

I may try it that way as my LJ is set to expire in a couple of weeks. And I know DW is paid through at least 9 months.

I don't know... online life shouldn't be this hard.

I post from DW, but I never read my flist there for this exact same reason. I can't import my filters, I hate the access/reading thing, and I don't like the way it looks. But for a solid backup, it's nice to have.

I didn't realize how many folks felt that way about the access/reading thing! That's interesting--I feel a little less dumb about it, knowing that it's not just me. I was just using it as an example, because I know folks have all kinds of reasons for not being ready to move yet. And yeah, it's so nice to have the option!
