Why do People Have to Throw up?

Why oh why do we have to throw up? I mean I realize it has to come out if it's upsetting your stomach, but why throw up? Ick, ick, ick, I just had to clean up my 5 year olds puke(granted its not the same as a grown-ups puke, but it's puke non the less!)and I nearly puked myself! Somehow though it's easier when it's your own kid. I mean no puke is

I'm sorry! I know that sucks! The worry,the annoyance,the clean up!
When you vomit, it's your body's way of cleansing itself from the toxins.
