I think it will come as no shock to you that I agree with many points that you make. I was actually mulling over writing a post of my own on the very topic. That was last year, back when Bill was still presented as the tragic figure just trying to do everything for the girl (including going on a homicidal spree), back when I couldn't quite put my finger on why exactly he bothered me so much
( ... )
I agree with this doubly. The very last thing you said is spot on. Bill isn't evil, he does have good intentions, but half the time those intentions seemed to be fueled by personal interest and gain and that's why he comes off as so detestable.
His dullness is definitely not a reason to hate and dislike him as much as we'd come to before everything was washed out in the mix, like you said. There was always something else there, something we couldn't quite touch on that was evident, but we just couldn't see because we didn't know the proper truth behind. And as time went on, it just got worse and worse until finally Eric told Sookie exactly what was going on and revealed the depth of Bill's treachery and ambition.
The dynamic between Bill and Lorena also has a good bit more to it - it has to. Eric told Sookie that the bond between a Vampire and his maker was stronger than anything a human could imagine, and unless the writers want to add more bias to Bill's side, there is absolutely no reason this should be any different for him
( ... )
You're very right lol I also think yes, he hated Lorena from taking him from his family, I just don't think that was the big reason at the end of the day. It just played a part.
It's going to be somewhat interesting this season to see how Beel's going to clash with the AVL and the Authority because you know he'll go headlong against them in order to secure more power for himself. He's just like that.
I also agree that if he wasn't so hated, he would definitely be forgettable. He's just not a good character when all is said and done, especially when he was doing his southern gentleman thing for Sookie.
God, I also forgot, you're right about Stephen Moyer, it really doesn't seem like he watches the same show lol, but he WOULD be biased to his own character, so yeah, I can understand his reasoning for saying those things lol
OH yeah i agree with that! It wasn't the big reason at the end of the day, I think it was about the whole control issue.
I can't wait for it and I have a gut feeling Nan is going to die and he will play a part into it. Like you said he just needs more power for himself. Sookie is lucky he could never glamour her or she would be more brain dead then Ginger. XD
Exactly! He is really dull and basic. He is lucky for the hate he gets or else no1 would care.
OMG joining!!! Oh jenpero just posted in her journal she made a new community as well. ontd-fangtasia.livejournal.com :D
Edit: lol I swear he doesn't or he is under contract to say those things. Because NO ONE sees Beel the way he is trying to justify him as this ~romantic hero~.
LOL YAY! And yar, I need to get the coding for jenpero's new community fixed up, I've been a little preoccupied with previous engagements I've wanted to finish up first though lol x.x!
Anyway, I do too about Nan, she's probably going to get it this season. And Stephen probably is under contract...after all, I remember Alan Ball being all like "wtf are you talking about" when someone asked him if Jason was going to become a Werepanther and look what's happening now...So yeah, they're all like "must mislead so audience will be surprised" lol XD
I know I'm commenting late but I just have to say how much I lost this post! While I disagree about Bill being a dull uninteresting character, everything else you've written is spot-on. I LOVED Bill, I shipped Bill/Sookie like crazy the first two seasons, and part of me still wants to...but at this point I just don't know anymore. It's so difficult to be a fan. :( I thought at first this season would somehow give Bill the ultimate redemption for the horrible things he did to Sookie, but it hasn't so far. He didn't even let Eric go free until AFTER Eric's heartfelt little speech. I feel like the right way to go about evolving/changing his character would have been Bill realizing for himself that he had to let Eric go
( ... )
Ohhhh I'll definitely have to give that one a look, and don't worry about posting late, it's completely cool lmao xD!
As for him being boring/uninteresting, I understand, that part's completely in my personal point of view, but yeah, all the stuff he pulled...ugh, what I said above speaks for itself here. And you're right, Eric at least has the decency and gall to be straightforward with her, despite the fact that he may be doing something to her that she doesn't particularly like at the time.
I'd just rather see Sookie end up with almost anyone rather than Bill myself...lol :D
YES for her own sake she really needs to just be away from Bill! Alcide is probably even better than Eric since he seems to be the least dangerous, especially with her being part fairy, but he has an awful lot of emotional baggage lol. I understand Ball saying it's "difficult" to not think B/S are soulmates because Anna and Stephen are soulmates (and I do ship them like crazy as a real life couple!) but at the same time that just makes me go "...bwuh? then why have you written Bill into a hole and made him so fucked up?!" It's aggravating. I went down with the B/S ship, now I'll go down with E/S..
Oh I know, and the favoritism for Beel on the show is RIDUNKULOUS!!! I love AP and SM in real life honestly, but that doesn't mean that SS and BS are friggin' soulmates god...art imitating life is fine TO A POINT but I really don't want to watch TB so I can go "Oh I get to see AP and SM boning!" That's not what it's about x.x!
I also agree, Alcide is the least dangerous choice. Emotional baggage? Shit, that's just normal stuff. Everyone has some of that. So yeah, him or even Sam would definitely be the winners here as far as safety is concerned big time. lol
