Oh noes! I am bereft!

I am caffeine-less this morning!

I made myself my usual travel mug of tea at 6 to take to the radio station, and I left it at home. I'm more than usually saddened because it was nice tea - I treat myself on Wednesdays since I'm up so early and tea is so helpful - and I will just have to dump it when I get home ( Read more... )

It was cool, if hella pricey. Remember the jokes about selling your firstborn to get a danish there?

Strangely, I don't remember the jokes. I do remember it being a little pricey and tended to consume their mochas only on special occasions, but now it's cheaper than Starbucks! Most folks around here are used to Starbucks pricing...

Sadly, there are also three (!?) Starbucks within a 5-minute walk of Arabica, so I make a point of frequenting the indie shop (that has the added bonus of serving better tea and cakes.)

She has a gorgeous voice, so I imagine that it was an awesome show. This new album is all electronic-y, but since I like both Ms. Shankar and Mr. Kale, I'm pleased with it.

My tea story is sad, but not that sad. ;-) I was just amused at my own utter horror when I realized where my tea was.

For what it's worth, I didn't really frequent Arabica much as an undergrad either. It was only as a staff member and grad student (with income!) that I really fell in love. I think that sweetypotatoe is partly to blame; as a non-resident graduate student, she spends an inordinate amount of her time in Cleveland reading or writing at Arabica, and frequently extols its virtues. Plus they serve loose tea!

What's even worse is after having craved a hot cocca for 2 days (there's none in the apartment after the move from hell) and after having gotten lost wondering the Mall area of DC trying to find the incredibly obscure address of the park headquarters (see journal entry about first day) and having retraced my steps the 2nd morning to find the Starbuck's I'd passed to satisfy that craving, getting to work,
setting down the cup,
setting down the backpack next to it so I could put my lunch in the fridge, and then.....
SPILLING IT ALL OVER THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY AT THE 8:30 AM ROLL CALL.
Approximately 50% of the people with whom I will be working with for the next however many years.

Truly, I'm off to a great start here.
