There are (quite a, to be honest) few things more disheartening than being home sick on a work holiday. It's even more of a gyp than being sick on a weekend. And trying to get work done during that holiday just makes the whole experience vaguely insulting ( Read more... )

So didn't enjoy the winter weather yesterday. People are absolute idiots and ~90% of the cases that we dealt with in the EMS tents were directly cold-related emergencies. Either people were hypothermic or pre-existing medical conditions reached out and grabbed 'em because they HAD to be there to "take part of history" even though it was only 10 degrees out.

I knew it was gonna be bad when I was woken up at 0530 at the tennis bubble (where we all spent the night) by the announcement that the Mall was already full down to 7th st and by the time we got out to the tents, it was completely full to WAMO grounds and we were dealing with unconscious people.
We weren't scheduled to open the EMS tents until 0800 so our Drs and Rns and all their supplies didn't get there until then and by that point, they had one hell of a crowd to fight through.

And it just got better as the day went on..
