You and I surely know that when we ignore a problem, it only becomes worse with time. It grows and grows, not only in reality where it has yet to be dealt with, but also in our minds, until we can think of nothing else. Caspian was out in the yard with Jonquil. He had just taken her for some exercise and was now giving her a good grooming. Eddara's little pony, which might as well be named Mine to hear Eddara talk, would be next. Looking over Jonquil's neck, he saw Edmund coming down the path and waved the brush at him in greeting. "Hello," he said, as Jonquil tossed her head at the interruption in the rhythm of Caspian's brushing. "You've come to give me a hand, I see," he added, clearly joking.

Heavy though his thoughts may have been, things were not so dire that Edmund could not summon an honest smile for his friend. "You know, there was a reason my horse Philip didn't like me much to begin with," he said wryly. Of course, Philip didn't dislike him much either, and they got to be good friends over the years, but it was funnier to imply otherwise.

All the same, he did in fact pick up a brush to help Caspian. "Did Eddara go out with you this morning?"

"She does often, but not today," Caspian answered. "Jonquil needed proper exercise of the sort that does not fare well for small girls who don't quite yet have a steady seat." He set to the tangles in the horse's mane. "I plan to give her proper lessons on her pony soon. That should be... interesting."

"You'll have your hands full, that's for sure," Edmund agreed as brushing down the other side of the horse. "Not that you don't already. But at least now she only has two legs, not four."
