Oh, that Edmund could be such a joker sometimes, especially these days when the baby made her feel tired or ill. Susan thought he was taking the mickey out of her, trying to make her laugh, and so she just smiled at him. "Really?" she teased. "Don't you think you're a bit young for that?" She had no actual idea how old Charlie was, but he couldn't be much off Edmund's age.

"There are no rules for it on the island," Edmund replied blithely, as that was the sort of thing they'd already checked into. Not that they would have let such a silly thing as rules get in the way when they felt like this.

"Besides," he said. "I'm in love. I know who I want to spend the rest of my life with, even if it is a bit early to start doing so. Why not start now?"

Well, that seemed to be a little less like joking, and Susan blinked in bewilderment. "And Charlie's okay with this?" she asked. She hadn't pictured Charlie as the marrying-young type.

"Well, no," Edmund had to admit, his expression falling a touch. But the joy he felt at the prospect of marrying Luna buoyed him onwards.

"But I'm sure he'll recover. It will be hard at first, and I'm sorry for that, but what can we do really?"
