OOC: Background

Personality: Akon's developed a laid back, morbid sense of humor from long years with peculiar coworkers and handling gigai more than he interacts with their owners. It takes a lot to phase him or shock him and decades of serving under Kurotsuchi Mayuri have given Akon a considerable amount of fortitude in dealing with the bizarre and peculiar. He's a stickler for detail in the areas he can exert control over and tries to be laid back where he can't. It's at those time that his unflappable air becomes something of a facade, as situations completely outside of his control leave him frustrated, irritable, and prone to snapping verbally at people. Despite their quirks (or perhaps because of them), Akon is very fond of the motley crew he works with and is protective of them and his own division well beyond the others. He has a very quick and keen mind and is fond of friendly debates even when they degenerate down to friendly arguments.

Akon has developed a tendency to hold lengthy conversations with empty gigai as he works on them, either building or repairing. He's protective of his handiwork in a professional pride sort of fashion even if his mental list of measurements and embarrassing birthmarks decidedly isn't.

Background: Akon has no memory of the time before his death, only that emerging into one of the lowest parts of the Rukon made becoming a shinigami a very logical prospect. His time in academy was rather unremarkable and he passed after six years with grades average enough to be comfortable without drawing attention. He was small, but quick and quiet and had clever enough hands that he was persuaded to join the Fourth. His time there as an intern was long enough to spark a curiosity not as to how to put bodies back together, but in how they were put together in the first place. Akon showed a strong interest in assisting with dissections that could have been dismissed as morbid curiosity if not for the fact he was so persistent about it. He made the mistake of attempting one of his own on someone that turned out to be not quite dead from a bizarre Hollow attack and accidentally finished what the Hollow began. This was more than enough to land him in the Maggot's Nest. The time spent there taught him a form of patience and restraint and when he was offered a chance for freedom (both literal and intellectual) in exchange for the use of his skills in the Twelfth, Akon accepted it without a second thought and no regrets in the years to follow. Akon rarely discusses the details surrounding his release, but acknowledges a debt he feels he still owes his captain.

Following Aizen's betrayal, little has changed in Akon's life. He continues his work and duties in the Twelfth with little regard to what amounts to him as a change in management. The services the Shinigami Research and Development Institute provides will always be in demand no matter who's calling the shots above the level of his captain. Akon's loyalties are with the SRDI and the Twelfth Division and it makes little difference if he serves under Ukitake or Aizen. Akon has deep respect for both of the Kurotsuchis, Mayuri and Nemu. He is fully aware that one day he could be considered expendable by Mayuri, but even that brutal efficiency is admired. His respect for Nemu is marked by a certain degree of curiosity and he is well aware she could easily dispose of him in several creative and discreet ways if Mayuri ordered.

Akon's greatest strength is with his intellect and talent in the sciences and gigai construction in particular. Of the four combat disciplines, he has basic proficiency in shunpo and kido. He does possess a strong skill in hand-to-hand combat that is backed by an intimate knowledge of the body and how to efficiently take it apart. This is rarely demonstrated as he prefers to avoid fighting or active combat whenever possible, not out of any pacifist tendencies, but mostly because he considers it a waste of time. Akon has yet to learn the name of his zanpakuto and for the most part leaves the silent blade in his private quarters except when required to wear or present it. Of the four disciplines, swordsmanship is certainly his greatest weak spot.
