The Monster at the End of This Book

Once again, I'd like to thank my f-list, while I see a couple of posts mentioning things, you all are still made of love and win!

My reaction to this episode is made of lollipops and candy canes.  My fandom fangirls me back.   Kripke loves us like family - cause you can't mock something like that until you've spent too many holidays with it.  And ( Read more... )

If you have a happy bubble on LJ - then I'm guessing last night cut a little too close to home - and that while you laughed, you were mostly made uneasy.

And I think it's because they did NOT use LJ humor. They used TWOP's brand of humor and they used it well. It was a dead on snark impersonation.

You actually make a REALLY good point.

WORD - you have actually resolved all my uneasiness! It's so much nicer if it's PARTICIPATORY! :D Would you mind if I linked this post? (I followed the link from anteka's thread about the episode, btw - also, hi!)

Totally agree. I thought it was a charmingly affectionate poke at us (fandom generally and particualrly as viewed through TWOP) and for me it tickled! I thought the specific reference to Wincest was quite daring. Kripke was saying - yes we are this show hardly anyone watches, but the fans we do have are cool and dedicated (aka cult and underground), AND THEY WRITE GAY INCEST and we are cool with that. Because he couldve referenced fanfic without mentioning Wincest, but its like he was showing off how transgressive his fandom is.

Of course i am sure noone is surprised that i loved it!

I kept waiting for Sera Gamblethe publisher to call herself Missy actually. Or tell them she was actually a lesbian "but there's something about Sam..."

*snicker*

But yeah - so far I haven't met an offended fan that wasn't also offended by TWoP. Satire comes off as petty meanness if you don't fully know/understand the source material. To me, this was Monster Movie for fandom.

(Our Barnes is Julie Barnes, actually.)

(She just thinks Pam was a shoutout to her because of the last name. She might be right, or it may be a Dallas reference, or both.)

That being said, TOTALLY. That was totally TWoP-style mocking, and I ADORED it. Cringed a bit, but could NOT stop giggling at the "Dean was so sad and strong and brave!" Brilliant.

ACK! Fixed the name - I knew that - I just rephrased the sentence halfway through typing it and got mixed up.

Tracie said she was based on a fandom board in an early interview. So I'm with Boards!Barnes - ONE OF US! Hee.

It just felt so ballsy, I couldn't believe it, simply because as much as those of us who post on TWoP may have conflicting feelings about it (do I ever)...it's sort of, for me, my Supernatural experience. And they were laughing at it. And then I realized, how amazing is it that we get to be a part of the show in all our obnoxious, "gripey", irritable, loving, squeeing glory in a way that maybe no fandom has ever been embraced by a show. It was great. They played in our arena and they matched us blow for blow ( ... )

Yes. (Although I edited. You're wrong about TWoP not being called out before.) TWoP's forum response vs LJ's response is what prompted the post. On the forum we're all "SHOUT OUT! WOO HOO!!!!" and on LJ we're all "OMG! THEY CAN SEE US! HIDE THE PORN!"

I adore the episode for loving us and it's odd - I usually feel awkward about being a TWoP poster and today I feel awkward I'm on LJ. It's not the episode that I'm reacting to - it's the fandom... that was on the show... that is now reacting...

And then I feel like Dean sitting in a laundromat reading about himself sitting in a laundromat and reading about himself sitting...

And then I giggle until I get hiccups.

It was fucking hilarious and brilliant. "For fans of a show they sure do complain a lot"...AMEN DEAN!! They sure as fuck do! I haven't laughed so hard at a SPN show before. It was pure genius and spot on.

I keep waiting for them to encounter a flaming gay dragon. I swear - that's all that was missing!

THEY LOVE US!

I think that's how the show will end. Sam and Dean are eating by a flaming gay dragon. And then he'll turn to the camera and yell "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
