iTunes as Fandom

Jul 11, 2011 21:13

As previously mentioned, I've run across people who don't use iTunes.

SIGH.

Some Kat Definitions:
Freak: It's totally not your fault. You were born this freak/nurtured into it and cannot change, even though you'd might want to
Geek: Choose to be a freak - you take delight in your freak and will recruit others to your ways. That others can and ( Read more... )

my brain: music everywhere

You can even make folders, put your related playlists in them, and then from the folder view see all the songs in all the sub playlists. YOUR PLAYLISTS CAN HAVE PLAYLISTS.
AND
the best part is that iTunes will treat the folders as playlists in and of themselves. So if I want to hear everything Winchester, I can play the FOLDER playlist and hear all Dean, Sam, John, Mary, Sam&Dean songs. I think of the folders like stacked tags. They fill me with the same amount of geek love.

SERIOUSLY? I've been using iTunes since like 2004 and until I read the stuff above I had NO IDEA that could be done.

...and now I just figured out what I am going to be doing during my summer break. I mean, I knew about playlists (use them, LOVE them, etc) but didn't realize I could make subcategories! WHEEEE!

YES. I actually found out by accident. I usually do ctrl+N for a new playlist, but for whatever reason I used the mouse and clicked the wrong one. Then I got frustrated because I couldn't drag music into it.

Then I thought they were just for grouping until one day I clicked the folder and saw all the songs. ♥ __ ♥

I do wish we could drag to the folder, but you have to have an actual playlist. Ex:

I've got a folder called Dark Angel with subfolders Humans and Transgenics

In the transgenics folder I had to create a list for transgenics in general because I can't just put them in the folder.

ALSO - the iPhone doesn't sync the folders anymore. I'm not sure why but I swear it used to .

Wow, this helps me tremendously. I've been pretty anti-iTunes over the years, but I'm getting an iPhone, so now I have to learn how to use it. You have enlightened me!

OMG My iPhone is my Preciousssssssss! We loves it, we do, yes, Gollum.

Apps and Podcasts!!!!! and the one app I would absolutely recommend for you is Hipstamatic. It's got an initial cost but is one of the very few apps I've bought. (note: the flash is only with iPhone4 but otherwise it works the same on the 3GS) I've currently got 151 apps. All but 3 are free.

Oh god, I'll have to post a whole other thing on apps. But basically, load Intelligenti Ltd's tips and tricks app. That will then walk you through all the cool things and teach you how to use the phone.

Then load Shazam and Pandora. From there? I'd go through your bookmarks. THERE IS AN APP FOR THAT. Urbanspoon... Siri... gah. I need another post.

Also - there is Genius for APPS. If you let him, iTunes will go find you apps based on apps you have and like. MAGIC.

I love you and Fandom Guide posts.

Sadly I don't have iTunes. Don't have an iDevice of any kind or money to buy things. But when I win the lottery or make a jillion dollars I will probably get one. And when I do, I now have a much better idea of how the crazy wonderful fandom works.

:)

Later Kat. *Smishes*

MUAHAHAHAHA

You cannot escape that easily! iTunes software is free. And although you need a credit card or PayPal to get a store account, it only charges you if you actually buy something.

So there's nothing stopping you from setting up an account and getting the free podcasts. SPN fandom has SEVERAL podcasts out there.

JOIN US. You can still get free music from Amazon and use iTunes to store it. You just can't take it with you.

HA! YOU'RE NEXT. I just "ate" spn eighttrack's misc posters and am working through rockthecassette. THEN YOU AND OBEYSHI ARE TO BE ASSIMILATED INTO ITUNES.

It's been fascinating in a way, you can see from the older post just when fandom discovered how to add a name and artwork. Then we hit version 7 and there all sorts of 'WTF?! Why isn't in on one album? What do you mwan you see the artwork for the mix I got it from? How? I don't even HAVE that jph anymore!

I'm waiting to get to "current era" and hopefully faster load times as I don't have to format.
