So thanks to Avengers I have a friend that wants to see The Bourne Legacy but hasn't seen the three previous films. This is a spoiler filled recap of the universe for her. Not a humorous recap, meta or fangirly reaction - although all of that is bound to slip in.

Renner plays a Project Outcome asset - so he's the new improved version of a Bourne.

So when Treadstone and Blackbriar get exposed, the CIA decides to kill him for existing. This is the main plot from what I can tell from the trailers.
