A Warning

I feel compelled to tell you that Wicked was the most god-awful shite I've ever seen in my life.  It was truly truly dreadful in every respect and had not one redeeming feature - unless you enjoy that Emperor's New Clothes feeling when everyone around you is laughing at things that aren't funny and applauding something that deserves to be pelted ( Read more... )

Oops! Well you may be reassured to hear that most other people on the planet liked it, so there's a chance for happiness despite my ragings. And I am sometimes known for being overly critical.

I haven't read the book, but I read an excerpt and I rather suspect that the story itself might be quite great. It was probably only when they transferred it into musical form that the devastation occured.

I'll be interested to hear what you think after you've seen it.

Well I hope I haven't offended her (or any other fans) with this review. But it really was SO dire that I felt it had to be said.

Glad to hear an honest review at least! ;-) We've been tempted to go but the tickets are so expensive, so probably won't bother unless there is some sort of special offer.

Definitely don't go unless the tickets are dirt cheap. I wanted to cry when I thought of how much money everyone had paid for their tickets.

i quite liked it in new york - but i am entirely prepared to believe that the london production is rubbish.

I wondered about this as I had assumed they don't usually change a successful musical when it transfers abroad. So in New York, was the set made out of plastic, did you have trouble hearing what they were singing, was there no dancing, were there plot holes, did the only special effect - the flaming torch fizzle out half way through the scene? I have many more questions but those are enough for now.

I sincerely hope the NY production was better, as I'm disturbed by the idea that it's an international case of hoodwinking.

If I save one person from the miserable fate of sitting through that shit, then it was all worth it!

I thought the show was quite entertaining. Well, listening to you giggling in despair was quite amusing. Then there was that fellow behind us with the ridiculous sealion-bark-laugh which kicked in 5 seconds after any other laughter. Oh and there was the lady next to you who knew all the words to the songs.

All good fun.

Possibly not worth buying tickets to though. I mean, we can't guarantee that anyone else who goes to see the show would have such well-placed seats.
