Here's a poem I was inspired to write in response to a web acquaintance going into (and successfully getting out of) triple-bypass surgery.
Physician in thy care our friend was placed,
And I am glad you gave of heart and skill.
For now our future days will still be graced
Because our friend will be among us still.
The nursing staff did all the many things
That she, dependent on them, did require.
They soothed her fears and quieted the stings,
Providing reassurance to inspire.
So we give thanks because you took such care
And gave her back to us upon the mend
Her company with you we'd gladly share
But we are glad your custody's at end.
Our merriment and celebration start,
But know your efforts are there at the heart.
