blatantly ignoring policy your second week of work might ruin things for you. my experience is that working for a boss that is displeased with you totally sucks.

maybe you could just talk to other employees and see if one would switch with you before you put in the request. if none say they will, plan on calling in sick.

a. cause you can always ask individual people if they'll switch with you, and asking people face to face like that makes them feel compelled to switch. plus, they'll get time off later when you work for them. and steve is correct, you can just say "i HAve to go to this party but i wanted to let you know beforehand."

oh the sacrifices... what a guy, what a guy... what time are you working? you could switch with someone who's working an earlier shift on the same day? don't request, if they tell you not to. but don't feel bad about screwing them over either, because isn't it a seasonal job? i hope you can come, bob!!

Either way Im coming. I think Im just going to call in that day becuase it will directly result in my not working that day, without all the hassle of trying to switch hours. See you then!

you should really try and get someone to cover for you. just to be nice to your manager. i dont know how barnes and noble works, but at iparty of someone calls in, they call all the other employees to try and get someone else to work. and its a pain!

I would, but I really need the day off and if I'm not able to switch then they know Im going to be full of shit come saturday when I call in. Its selfish, but karma will get me, dont worry. :)
