Kudos to you for finishing it. 400 pages is a lot to push through if you’re not enjoying a book.

There were parts of the book that I enjoyed, though not enough to recommend it. There would be an interesting few scenes, but then the story would start to bog down again. Such a disappointment.

I think I was able to carry on because there were parts of the book that held my interest. That, and that I'd enjoyed the author's other books so much. But, yeah, a real shame.

Sorry this one was a disappointment. I will admit I am a little light on French history as well. There is just too much history to learn about. lol

Yes, there's only so much time to read, so one has to pick and choose. I could have gone without choosing with one. *g*
