It's hard to tell from her review whether she really liked it or not. There are some very good actors in it, though. And I wonder, is the song Defying Gravity the Jimmy Buffett song?

As far as the book goes, I tried reading it years ago and couldn't get into it.

Books written a while ago definitely give a new perspective on how certain parts of history are viewed. I like older books for that reason because we can get a new thoughts and perceptions by those who were part of a different time and place.

Exactly. It was interesting to see how much the view of that time, and circumstances, had changed.
