I'm sorry dude, pets are awesome. After our first dog died, my parents never wanted another dog since they claimed that it would be too much trouble, but eventually I realized they just loved that dog so much they didn't want the pain of loving a dog only to lose it when it died.
When I lived on a farm, we had a shit ton of feral cats, some of which we've tamed. I named a few as my own, usually favoring the aggressive tomcats who liked to piss on everything they claimed as their own (including my ankles), but unfortunately, they tended to wander. Sometimes they came back during the winter, but mostly not. I don't think they died or anything, but maybe some other family was leaving out food, or since cats are awesome, is fending for itself in the wilderness. Totally awesome when a cat I deemed long gone to show up (until they disappear again). Your cat might be the same- the un-neutered ones are totally capable of badassery. And who knows, maybe your cat will come back when it gets cold out.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. One of my friends back home has a cat who ran away a couple of weeks ago (after her roommate left the kitchen door open, I think), and it hasn't come back. Some people around her neighborhood spotted him a couple of times, but she's had no luck in getting him back. The bad part is that he's been declawed, so chances of him surviving on his own out in the wild are pretty slim

I'm allergic to cats and dogs, like break out in hives and get an inflamed throat kind of allergic. I envy pet owners because I find pets disturbingly cute and I'd definitely like to own one myself. Someone said I could own a poodle because they don't have dander, but what I'm scared of is getting a pet and not understanding their cues and having them secretly hate me. That can happen, can't it?
You were such a cute kid. I guess you've always been good-looking then.
I appreciate the sentiment, but I find all these comments about Smudge coming back when it's cold a bit insulting. Considering the longest he had stayed gone previously was like, three days, I highly doubt he's going to come back after now missing for over three months.

I'm so sorry your animals only spent a short time with you. At least, you give them a pretty good life until then.
Still, it can't be easy.
