1. Slash by: Slash (w/ Anthony Bozza)--- I don't usually read autobiographies or non-fiction, but, being a huge fan of Guns N' Roses and Slash, I had to make an exception. Slash has lived a very eventful, exciting life, and it was fun to read about. I especially enjoyed reading about his childhood and the early years of the band, when they were ( Read more... )

Well, I read a review for the film adaptation of The Lovely Bones and it criticized the movie for holding back when the book didn't, which piqued my interest. But yeah, I should've known better, especially given the book's popularity despite its subject matter. Oh, and the movie sucked balls, too.

I'm pretty sure I'd like Rage quite a bit. It just sounds like the kind of book I'd really go for. I came across a collection of Bachman books on Amazon not too long ago that had it in it, so maybe I can pick that up at some point. I can't believe King had it taken out of print just because of Columbine. Very disappointing ( ... )

Wow. I don't know how I managed to miss this post! Really, I just read loony's journal where she mentioned you and was like, whatever happened to that guy? Anyway, nice list! We really have been reading some of the same books lately, huh? I remember reading The Lovely Bones several years ago after a coworker gave me her copy, and I remember reading it rather quickly and mildly liking it... But now that I think back, I think it was really mostly for her concept of an individualized heaven. It made something of an impression on me as it coincides with my own secret version of paradise. I don't recall caring for the rest of it that much, however, one way or the other. Haven't seen the movie yet and probably won't because, frankly, it looks pretty melodramatic and retarded ( ... )

In any event, I don't think you should blame yourself for whatever ends up happening (though I will concur that giving love advice while high or drunk... probably isn't the best idea--been there). Your brother's an adult who ultimately must make up his own mind, his own decisions, and stick by those decisions. I understand looking to others for input and advice, but I disagree that doing that should somehow negate an individual's personal responsibility in what he does with his own life. Regardless, whatever he does, I hope things turn out all right for you.

(Gah! Sorry for the super long, month-late comment. DX)

Crap. I shouldn't have opened up this page of awesomeness right before work. Anyway - people only take advice when it aligns with what they want. People are never manipulated by advice. Advice is not rape, unless it is a suggestion at gun point. Your brother wants an affair with a girl he used to love and probably still loves - making out and talking and no sex? That sounds like it. If he can pit himself up to the responsibility of having affair, i.e., the drama, then he's fine.

I'm glad I haven't touched The Lovely Bones "And the bit near the end, when the MC possesses the body of another girl, just so she can come back to the living long enough to lose her virginity to her former crush, even though he's now in his 20's and she's still, in a way, fourteen--- I almost flushed the book down the toilet right then." <-- LOL. Ommggg. That is brilliant. I want to write some fucked up shit like that, but of course, there would be that added sibling taboo because I like it. From your reading list, I'd want to read Dracula, Dead ( ... )

**That sounds like love, not "That sounds like it."
**Never read Updike.

I also wanted to say that I like The Kite-Runner but the book made me tired. The beginning and the end were fabulous though.
