The fact that a series based around this concept is popular makes me lose all faith in humanity.

Please. There are better (worse?) reasons to lose one's faith. Likely before your time, but these were mine:

Vietnam - a complete waste of people, resources and national prestige.

Nixon - He did for the Presidency what Madoff did for investment: Destroyed our faith in the institution.

I haven't time to be bothered by children's games, which twilight is and will always be. Dracula was far more stylish.

I was being facetious, or rather speaking in hyperbole.

I can't even pretend to fully understand how difficult being in Vietnam could be for anyone and hope that you yourself never went there.

I think of Nixon as a joke- there were others before even him that made the institution a mockery of what it stood for, so I can't really be surprised.

Dracula knew how to do it right. Suck some blood, terrorize some peasants and move the fuck on. No hemming and hawing, no vegan vamps just an immortal dude who has a penchant for neck biting.

Honestly, I was ready to give Twilight a try (read: go to the library and paruse the first few chapters), if only to have a round sort of opinion.

Then I was sent a few choice excerpts, and was informed that the main female character has about a thousand and one Mary-Sue qualities. The woman is NOT a good writer, and it's really sad that she's sucked all these people into such shit.

I can't say it makes me lose faith in humanity (though it sort of does) because I've been through my fair share of stupid, horrible things. But if you're out of high school and you like those books, I make this face: -_-

The popularity of the Twilight saga scares me.

The writing is awful, the characters are one-dimensional, and the mutual attraction between Bella and Edward is not really explained. Edward likes the way Bella smells, and Bella likes the way Edward looks. There's really no reason this relationship should work. I don't understand why anybody would WANT it to work. He even says he has to fight his urges to kill her with his bare hands..."I could, but I couldn't because I love you so much!"
Which should be disturbing, but of course, isn't.

I won't even get into his lurking in the shadows of her bedroom bit, or the fact that he carries her around on his back like a child.
