So, I am not entirely sure whether there are enough people who read this page to get a discussion on this, but as a (now) computer science student, we have just been told that the number of applications has decreased this year to 9 people, compared to the 24 applicants we had last year... i think the decrease in applications for compsci is probably reflecting a general shift downwards in that area after the huge increase in the nineties; job prospects arent as good as they used to be so more people are thinking 'hmm, may as well do somethng a little less specialised'

the huge increase in theology, i suspect, is likely to be a product of the small sample size and represents a fairly small year-to-year fluctuation. would be interesting to know exactly how many theology students there are in the whole of cambridge; was that included in the figures? if its less than 50 or so, i think that can be fairly safely put down to chance. on the other hand though, religious issues are quite prominent at the moment sp perhaps its not so random. i dunno; i dont know any theology students to ask!

Hey I was a first year compsci last year - you might know me if you were too.

All really technical compsci jobs seem to be getting outsourced to india, and those doing project management do arts subjects at degree levels these days, as the majority of compscis (esp. at cam) don't have the social skills required to succeed.

And maybe the people applying have more sense these days then I did...!
