How To Avoid Me at Conflux This Year - A Guide to Perplex

I have very, very bad news. LJ lost my post when I was doing my final additions. Someone emailed about something urgent and LJ hated me for it. It said it had done a backup, but had only saved the title. I haven't time to do it again. I have deadlines coming out of places I didn't know deadlines could hide. So here's the short version ( Read more... )

Don't blame you for being rude about Heinlein. But I have to say, I found myself getting sucked into his books as a teenager, even when I said, "Oh, yuck!" afterwards. I remember sharing Stranger In A Strange Land with a friend of mine on the beach when we were about 16. It was her copy and she read aloud during our long, warm days in the sun. So I associate that book with summer and the Beach Boys on the transistor. Weird, isn't it?

Rosh Hashanah will be sad for my family this year. My nephew's wife's grandmother, Simone, a delightful lady we all loved, including my Mum, died very suddenly today. She just dropped dead in the foyer of her apartments. :-( There will be an autopsy, so no funeral tomorrow. And of course, the big family dinner on Sunday will be much smaller. And my nephew's younger son is having his fifth birthday tomorrow! Oh, dear... Not good.

Heinlein's adult novels were brilliant ideas but imperfect in the telling.

I'm so sorry to hear about your relative. I hope the birthday went well, regardless, and the Rosh hashanah isn't too painful. May next year be better!

Oh, yes, Jonah got his birthday gifts all right, and I sang happy birthday on the phone. There will be about half the numbers at dinner tonight. My sister-in-law is wondering what to do with all that mince she bought for gefilte fish(come to think of it now, Simone used to make the fish). But we'll catch up with the others on a later day... And Mum made some chicken soup for Friday night, and a lovely honey cake I could smell all the way up the hall when I arrived.
