So, I'm working on a project for my Foundations of Mathematics Education Class. I'm supposed to be coming up with a fake dissertation proposal. I'm having trouble coming up with the question to ask. (clearly, my conceptual framework, my literature review, my proposed methodology for answering the question and the implications of my research ( Read more... )

It has been several years since I took calc and I’ve managed to successfully remove most of it from my head, but looking over some web sites I do seem to remember that conditional convergence stood out. I do not remember if it stood out as one of the few things that I got right off the bat, or if it was something where it took me a while to understand (if I understood it at all). Does that help any?

A little...I did think about that particular area, that is, differentiating between conditional and absolute convergence, but based on what research I've been able to scrounge up so far, I think I may start a little lower on the food chain and "check out what cognitive obstacles are encountered during the student's introduction to series and convergence"

But I appreciate your feedback. :)

I liked when we did rotating curves around an axis because I could draw little pictures. I have no idea if that is at all relevant.

Not entirely relevant. But it is nice to hear someone say they believe in drawing the problem so that they can see what's going on. So many students refuse to even do that much.

I had to retake that class (new school doesn't let you get D's like RIT does) last semester, actually. Little bit fresh.

Distinguishing between a sequence and a series was easy, but the hard part really was keeping track of the series tests that failed instead of giving a yes/no sort of answer.

Ask me in another week when I can let diff eq drop out of my head and remember calc 3 better?

RIT doesn't let you get D's anymore either. They started a policy a couple years ago entitled the "C or Better" policy. Guess what it says? ;)

I am afraid the cobwebs are too thick at this point. I do not remember anything harrowing but I really wish I could explain what was good or bad about it.

That's okay. You are a busy man. Accomplishing busy important things. Like laser hockey for my DS. That is busy and important. To both me and my DS. And we thank you for your diligence.
