I forgot how much I like this episode!
--> So many seeds are planted here! Let's start with the obvious: Lorelai and Sookie's inn plans. I always forget how early this plotline really started. It's exciting! Oh, Fran. In related news, Lorelai's meltdown, and her friendship with Sookie.
--> Everything relates in this episode! Okay, this segues nicely into Lorelai and Luke. This is definitely a shipper's episode. From helping her with the business to the Star Trek mocking, from Lorelai's standing by him in the town meeting to the way he is there to field her self-doubt, their multi-faceted friendship and genuine connection is rarely showcased as well as it is here.
--> MIA! Mia and the Gilmores, Mia and Michel (ha), Mia and Luke (bigger ha!), and the incredibly touching scene between Mia and Emily at the end. Can you imagine Lorelai showing up at her doorstep fifteen years ago? We get some nice back story out of her visit.
--> Rory and Dean being cute! But we also get the first inkling of Rory/Dean/Jess trouble a'brewing. So let's talk about Jess. Just trying to impress a pretty, innocent girl, or is Rory the one who can reach the compassion he has inside him? Something in between?
--> Speaking of Jess and the havoc he wreaks, this episode is a shining example of Stars Hollow madness at its finest. Luke and Taylor confrontations are always fun.
--> The oil painting! A fun little side plot, and it leads to a rare instance of Lorelai sharing her life with Emily.
