--> First of all, let's talk about the fact that Carole King guest stars. I find that endlessly cool. For anyone who may not have realized, the owner of the music store is played by the same woman who wrote and performs the theme song, as well as many other songs you probably know. Awesome.
--> Speaking of the music store, this is the beginning of Lane's first extended story arc, which is pretty neat. Let's share some Lane love, shall we?
--> Lorelai and Richard! Considering that their last major episode together was "Richard in Stars Hollow," this is certainly a step up. Isn't it a relief to see Lorelai getting along with one or both of her parents? And oh, Richard. Something about the moment where he says "she's no Margie" but means "she's no you" reminds me of their half-a-second of eye contact in "Forgiveness and Stuff." The connection, if only for a moment.
--> Luke went fishing.
--> Rory and the aftermath. Eventually exploding at Lorelai - who's right?
--> Her scene at the end with Luke I think really drives home the point that these two people are the only two people who have any kind of belief in Jess, and the solidarity between them makes for a lovely, understated moment. We don't get many meaningful interactions between Rory and Luke; it's nice to be reminded that they have a relationship.
