i agree...pictures of ppl holding alcohol just makes them look like show-offs, like "look everyone, i'm drinking and that makes me part of the IN crowd"
there are a couple things i would like to say. first of all, i don't think i know anyone who would stay in on a friday/saturday night because they wanted to check facebook profiles instead of going out. i'm not saying that there aren't people who would prefer to stay in on a weekend night... i'm one of those people on a pretty regular basis, and i might happen to look at the facebook while i'm not going out, but let me assure you, stalking people through facebook is not my motivation for staying in. second of all, you're completely right about people judging you based on the groups you join. well, to a certain extent. i knew someone freshman year who was completely straight edge, and wouldn't drink at all. then, some time during sophomore year, they joined the "39%-ers" group on facebook, which led me to believe (correctly) that they had started drinking. on the other hand, you have to take everything you read on facebook with a grain of salt. a lot of it is a joke... and i would never judge someone based on what was in their

First of all, amen to "And please, realize....having a picture of you holding alcohol does not make you cool. Period."
Second, the purpose of facebook for me is pretty much procrastination. I usually check for messages, maybe look at my friends, but that's about it. I never spend more than a few minutes at a time, but I check it constantly. I think people are obsessed with it for different reasons. Some because they use it to look popular (people who friend everyone they've ever seen), some to keep track of friends at other schools, some to stalk, etc. I don't really know what the pull is, but it's definitely there.
