title: new death

kyungsoo wants to be at peace.
Death is the beginning of life. Death begins the moment when you were born.
Live life to the fullest is what Kyungsoo thinks every morning he wakes up.
His 6th grade science teacher told him that millions of people die every day - very unfortunate.
Different kinds of people die every second of every day, may it be a new born baby, a seven year old child, a person with a disease, a mother, a father, or an elderly man.
Kyungsoo thinks he’s fortunate to live for 21 years, for he’s aware that any second, he may die. He believes that every second of his life is a new beginning since he knows that you cannot turn back time. People can repeat or change the things they want to change, but it will only add seconds in your life, wasting the moments that’s needed to be done and was used in changing something that’s already done in the past.
Past is history as people say it.
Every second is also an end to something that has been done.
He also believes that death is the beginning of life - beginning of eternal life, being at peace. Sometimes, he wants to be at peace, but there are still important matters that have to be done as he is still going on with his life: fight for his death.
He is one of the unfortunate people who are in the hospital, waiting for the day they will be attaining peace and serenity by the end of the day.
Kyungsoo just wants to get this over with. Maybe, start a new death or begin a new life.
“How long am I going to wait?” Kyungsoo asks his doctor, Kim Joonmyun, who is checking his IV from time to time.
“Usually, this disease takes a long time to heal, but considering that the signs showed up recently for you, maybe you have to wait longer.” Joonmyun says as he refills his patient’s IV. Kyungsoo is disappointed, feeling both fortunate and unfortunate at the same time.
Fortunate for thinking that he can already be at peace and unfortunate for the requirement of waiting for a long time.
“It is okay, Kyungsoo, we’ll do our best to heal you.” Joonmyun gives him a reassuring smile, hoping that his patient would feel better.
“Thank you.” Kyungsoo smiles back.
His visitors lessens every week, ‘till only his family is the only visitors that visits him every twice a week or maybe if life is good, they visit him four times a week. He gets lonely every day, just reading books that have been given to him by his mother and his friends that paid him a visit.
At least he’s got a doctor to talk to every night.
“What does it feel like to be a doctor knowing that you can’t do anything about your patient’s sickness, even trying to heal that patient when in fact, you’re just waiting for that person to die?” Kyungsoo asks his doctor one night, as Joonmyun observes him, writing on his clipboard.
“We want to give that person hope, that he can still live.”
“Unfortunately, you’re giving that person false hopes.”
Joonmyun chuckles as he places his clipboard by the bedside, and sat on the chair beside Kyungsoo’s bed.
“It’s their choice to hope, not us. We’re just giving them what they want to feel.”
“In short, you guys are mean.”
“Hey, we’re trying to help them, so we’re not mean. It’s not our fault that they got sick.” Joonmyun says. “Besides, they don’t want to know that they’re going to be at peace at the end.”
“So, tell me honestly,” Kyungsoo whispers, “am I going to die?”
Joonmyun just smiles, as he stands up grabbing his clipboard. “I have to go, Kyungsoo. Go to sleep, you’ll need it.”
Kyungsoo nods and gets a random book from his bag to read.
It seems like he’ll be waiting for a new life.
Kyungsoo didn’t wait too long to attain peace as he felt his heart racing, painfully beating through his chest making it harder for him to breathe. Joonmyun arrives, as he does everything to make his patient alive, since he doesn’t want to feel guilty over a patient he took over for quite a long time, he doesn’t want to feel that he didn’t do his job well, considering that he already knew that Kyungsoo won’t last long.
Joonmyun placed the white cloth on his patient’s head, and smiled, “At least, you’re at peace already.”
