What a jerkwad! Mads, don't let others try tell you what is and isn't right, because you know what's right for you. To some people family is only blood-relatives, but we know better. Just think, in the middle ages, your "maeg" (or kinsmen) weren't just your family, but the groups of people you gathered around you in friendship, etc.

Whatever this guy seems to think, I stick by the proverb: "Friends are the family you make for yourself". He obviously doesn't understand the subtleties of relationships or even emotions. I'd say try not to associate with him very much, since he seems like a contrary jerk, and might have even been saying those things to be hurtful.

At any rate, I love you to pieces and totally understand what you mean. I often feel like Pieter is very much like a brother, even if we don't converse as much as we used to!

Madeline, that sucks. Try not to let him get to you. You're not alone in feeling like people not blood-related to you are relatives. I have a "grandma" who is no relation, but I've known her my entire life and always called her as such. And my best friend Katie is family, without a doubt. I would like to be more eloquent, but the best I can manage is: What a retard. Arguing with people like that is worthless, because, like a certain president, they're already absolutely convinced they know what 'right' is. Not worst wasting your breath or energy where others will appreciate it more.
