pantherscorpius CHARACTER INFORMATION
Canon Character and Series: Badou Nails, DOGS: Bullets and Carnage.
In-Game Name: Badou Nails.
Age: 20.
Gender: Male.
Position & Ship: 4423, Gunner.
Appearance: Badou is what some would refer to as 'lanky'; tall, a little long-limbed and a little on the skinny side. He has a head full of orange hair, which hangs well past his shoulders and parts to the right. While it is usually allowed to be free, it can, on occasion, be found pulled back into a neat ponytail or tied up in not such a tidy manner, leaving it looking much like it lost the fight with the hair tie.
One aspect of his appearance which is immediately notable is the black eye patch over his right eye. The left eye --blue in colour and perfectly normal-- is on show, while the eye hidden beneath the patch is white and scarred. The scar underneath the patch isn’t the only one he has, either. The palm and back of his right hand are also marred by a thick silver mark which makes it look as though something sharp was stabbed right through it. Despite the unfortunate location, it doesn’t hinder the use of his fingers.
Badou rarely carries himself with a sense of self-confidence. Standing at just over 6'0" tall, he tends to slouch when speaking or walking with people shorter than himself. Most of the time, the lack of a shorter companion won't do anything to help his slouch, either. He can often been seen walking as if the weight of the world were on his shoulders, especially if he's had to perform some sort of task that is physically trying. His 'woe-is-me' walk is usually accompanied by a pained expression, as if asking the world to leave him be (but actually looking for an ear to vent to.)
Badou's face is always full of expression, be it reluctance, fatigue, terror, happiness, dissapointment and more often that not, confusion. Badou prefers to wear boots, a clothing choice which only adds to his already heavy footed gait. He can usually be seen in a long, well-worn coat and he tends to favour camo-patterned clothing over plain material. Most of his other clothes, be they t-shirts or jeans or casual shirts, show signs of being worn in and much loved with bits of repair work visible if you look closely enough. Depending what he happens to be doing, he can occasionally be seen in mechanic-type overalls, with the few he owns being shades of dark green and navy blue.
Most importantly, Badou will almost always be seen with a cigarette between his lips and, if there isn’t one there, he's most likely about to light-up. The only times that he is really seen without one is if he’s busy or otherwise preoccupied, though it will take a lot to keep him from smoking for extended periods of time.
Personality: Badou, first and foremost, likes to complain. Well, it's not that he -likes- to complain, it’s just that he prefers lazing around and slacking off to doing any work, so complaining comes naturally to him. Some would call him a whiner, and he'd probably complain about that, but it wouldn’t be far from the truth if they did. However, when the time calls for it, he can and will show his hard-working and reliable side. Although he may not always have the best ways of showing it, he cares a lot for those close to him and will show off these traits in his own, sometimes uncomfortable way.
He's been known to show an intelligent side when needed and his observational skills are to be admired, though these are both handy for his job. Despite having his best intentions mostly at heart, Badou still can't conceal his cowardly nature entirely. When his lungs are full of nicotine, his character is relaxed and much less likely to throw himself into the line of fire. Almost pacifistic in his actions, he just wants everybody to get along. In anybody else's eyes, when trouble starts brewing, this may make him seem like nothing but a wimp. Again, this might be more accurate than he'd like to admit. If he can, he'll be happy to skulk off in the direction furthest away from trouble, smoking and acting like the innocent by-stander.
Although, in certain circumstances, good and bad traits are pretty much flushed away in a sea of insanity. Depriving him of his precious nicotine or otherwise threatening his life can and will resort to this complaining chain-smoker transforming into a gun-toting, murderous maniac. Sometimes this insane side of his personality can be slowly built up over hours, but more often than not, he can change as quick as a snap of the fingers.
Abilities/Weapons: During the above mentioned insanity is usually the only time that it becomes apparent that Badou is quite handy with a gun. Or two, in his case. His weapon, or weapons of choice would be a pair of machine guns. He prefers these, but would be happy with any gun given to him. He figures if he can work one kind, others shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
He's quite quick, thanks to many years of running away from fights that he probably had a hand in starting. Thanks to his job of gathering information and snapping pictures of people doing things they really shouldn't be, he's grown to be quite good at escaping over rooftops, hanging by climbing equipment from buildings and landing in heaps of garbage.
All in all, he’s quite athletic despite his predisposition for cowardice. Another unusual set of abilities that Badou possesses (and tries very hard to keep to himself, thanks), is a very domestic side. Being left inside while his brother ran around town gave him time to get pretty good at sewing up clothes, cooking and cleaning. His dislike of work stretches to this, so playing Mr. Clean Up and Tidy isn’t exactly his idea of a good time.
How well can your character hack?: With a medium ability, most likely. And he's a little nosey by nature, after many years of snooping around in other peoples' business, so maybe he'll get better.
Weaknesses: Badou's biggest weakness would be that he is nothing but a mere mortal. Like most, there is only a certain amount of trauma his body can take. If he is shot, or severely beaten, (or anything along these lines) it's the end of the road. That said, he's not the kind of person to give up valuable information in a situation where the mentioned forms of torture would be used. Chances are he had a hand in getting that information, so he won't give it up easily.
Another obvious weakness is that he is completely blind in his right eye. Unfortunately the eye-patch is not a fashion accessory. However, the eye has been blinded for a number of years, so although his depth-perception isn't the best, he can still happilly walk around with bumping into walls. His speciality is guns. While he can work any kind of gun given to him, he is completely untrained in any kind of hand-to-hand combat. What he does know, he learned from brief scuffles when he was younger. Nothing that he could use in a fight against somebody bigger, heavier and trained. This goes for when he is ganged up on, too. Against one is bad enough, let alone a group. Again, this is why he has become so good at running away. His cowardly nature also shows through again.
As mentioned before, he would rather flee from a fight then stand his ground. He aims to live as long as possible, so to save his life, and his bullets, he runs whenever he can. On top of all of this, there is his nicotine deprived, berserker side to deal with. The personality that is released will not pause to determine whether he's shooting friend or foe. Naturally, if this side of him is pointed at the enemy, it's not bad to have around. Badou wouldn't consciously hurt any friend, but then, without nicotine coursing through his veins, he's not himself, as it were.
History:
Badou was born and raised in Kropmork. Having never known his parents, his older brother was the one to bring him up. Badou was always happy enough with the arrangement as, naturally, he never knew any better. His brother bought in money through the means of freelance journalism and the odd spot of photography. A risky job, as he was delving into the private lives of any well-to-do types that happened to travel through Kropmork. Badou would never be taken out on these jobs, so he taught himself to be helpful around their apartment.
He cooked for when his brother returned home, kept the place clean and patched up any torn clothing. Private lives were not the only thing that Badou's brother had his nose in. Unfortunately for both of them, when the rumour of children going missing, only to turn up later, claiming stories of prostitution and experimentation, Badou's brother snooped around the wrong story and supposedly exchanged it for his life.
Unfortunately, that was the first and only time Badou was taken along, and he has the scar on his hand and a blinded right eye to show for it. He claims to have little to no memory of that day, which is what drives him now to search for his brother. However, Badou's brush with death did not deter him from going down the same path as his brother in the years to come. Even before he was old enough, he carried on his brother's bad chain-smoking habit and got himself a job, sniffing around the same old stories that got them into trouble in the first place. This all comes from having made friends with his brother's former connections.
Between getting back in touch with old aquaintances, he needed a steady income, if only to buy himself ciggarettes and film for his camera. He got a part-time job in a little shop, selling the life essentials. Although, whilst doing the odd job for the various Guilds inside Kropmork, Badou began to hear stories once more about missing children. Thanks to his somewhat seedy connections, he was never short of information of illegal dealings. Armed with his camera and his trusty machine guns, he began his search for any clues towards the whereabouts of the people behind the missing children, and possibly his brother, too.
Try as he might, he soon came to realise that this was bigger than Kropmork. That these occurrences were happening on a larger scale. If he wanted to find clues, and follow the scent, he had to leave the city behind. That's when he listened to information that he'd not cared about before. Stories about the flying ships and the Captains in charge of them. A plan was forming, he used his connections to determine which of the ships would best suit his goals.
So he saved, doing as many jobs on the side and working overtime at the shop. He packed his things and gave the small apartment one last good look over. If he could get onto the 4423, he didn't know when he'd see his home again. The 4423. A ship that no doubt has it's way with the underground. He figured it was a good a choice as any. Maybe he could find someone aboard who had heard of the strange case of missing children. He didn't know for sure, but what he did know is that he wasn't going to get any further in Kropmork. He set off, wondering just what it is that fate has in store for him.
Also, if you'd like to say anything about my playing of Badou, good or bad, please drop me a comment at this post. Thanks!
