try messing with layers and soft light / hard light / screen. from my experiences, it works a bit differently for each picture so you just gotta try it out and see what looks the best to you :)

i know what you mean. then you could try this - create a new transparent layer and paint over the part you want to stand out with a brighter color, like for example if you want the red in the pic to be really bright you will use a really bright red, if you know what i mean. and THEN you set the layer to screen. you can try that :)
The Curves Tool is probably what will work best & easiest. And you could also try using gradients or solid color layers set on Soft Light, Hard Light or Overlay as a final touch of color. That's what looks like what might have been done on the third one to add green, blue, yellow etc. to make the individual caps have their own color squares.

But I was wondering how you make like one of the colored really stand out, with out make it to dark. Like, the picture still being detailed..
