Could you be more specific on the effects you would like to replicate?

Other than that, you might try asking the icon makers how they got a certain effect. :)

I'm guessing the "effect" in the last one is a texture - you'd have to ask the maker what texture did they use and on what setting.
I managed to more or less recreate the first Nino icon and the Aiba ones by fiddling with Levels, Curves and color fill layers. The thing is - I suck at explaining and I only saved the .xcf for the Aiba one (here, if you'd like to have it), it looks like this:
