Everyone that I was sharing the room with (
camillecarelli,
michellann68,
vartansgirl and
michellann68's friend) was very good natured about me getting up and going out early. I did of course pack my backpack, stick out clothes, etc the night before. I knew I had limited time that day, so I wanted to get an early start on seeing more of the city. I thought I had escaped without anybody else waking up, but
camillecarelli played Mom as she tends to do and interrogated me a bit while half awake. "Do you have your room key?" 'Yes." "Maps?" "Yes." "Cell phone?" "Yes. I have everything. I packed it all last night." "Ok. Have fun. Be careful. See you in a few hours."
Got out the door 15-20 min after the alarm-- not bad. The city was relatively quiet when I first started out, kinda neat. I realized then that I really *liked* the city. I could live there, although I like Washington better. I REALLY would like to spend some more time there though, exploring and just becoming a part of everything. Walked downtown to get to the nearest tour bus stop and to find some food. Learned that in New York bagels are PHENOMINAL and donuts aren't good at all.
I hopped on the bus for a few stops and decided to see
Grand Central Terminal first. The closest stop was near the Empire State Building, which was intersting to see
from the ground.
Koreatown was intersting, nothing at all like the Seattle verison. On the way (yay for maps) I walked by the
New York Public Library and saw some of these plaque things that they had sunk into the sidewalk around the area. They had poems and cool things on them. When I was looking at the library building, I saw this
really cool shiny gold building. Unfortunately, I have NO idea what building it is.
