Much verbosity on a variety of things (part 1)

Since I seem to be very talkative, much is under the cut today. Garden plans, Adventures in LA,(complete with links and pictures!) adventures of working on the house, and lots of general lifeness.

The new absolutely me quote-- "You're not easily distracted, you're easily fascinated."

So, I went on another wild and wacky weekend with michelleann68. In all the times we've never had a bad time. Sometimes things end up differently than we've planned, but never a huge disaster. Things somehow always have this zen property of working out for the better however it ends up, so generally when she's wanting to go, I'm totally there. (if I can swing the cost.)

This time? Another LA weekend. (Much, MUCH cheaper than NY, although honestly, I'd die to go back.) We go, of course, so that she can go see her favorite of her 'harem' of actors, Robert Sean Leonard, do a literary reading at the Getty museum. He's not a particular favorite of mine, but it's not like I hate him, so I figure sure, why not. Never been to a literary reading anyway, so time to expand my horizons. And there's TONS of things I'd still like to see at the Getty-- I never seem to have enough time. It's a really special place. But the biggest perk for me? Spending ALL WEEKEND with stellaluna_. (I was practically bouncing with excitement since the minute we got the plane tickets.) Michelle's friend evila_elf was supposed to come with us, but didn't. :-(

Got tickets for CHEAP, but that ment making connection flight in Salt Lake City. Medicine is long lasting, (up to 3 DAYS) so good to go. :-) Salt Lake City had lots of pretty mountains, and it was very. very. FLAT. Didn't get to leave the airport, but what I could see sure looked a lot like Eastern Washington, except flat. Went from nice sized plane with tv screens embedded in each seat back (Seriously. We got to watch REAL SATELLITE TV. Not their 'pre-recorded' junk. It was soooo NICE.) to squished in tiny plane that we got stuck on the tarmac in for an HOUR because the Salt Lake City airport staff were a bunch of morons who didn't have enough workers to do everything. First we needed fuel, and despite our poor Captain requesting 4+ times, they were "still getting there" 40 min later. Then once they did that, they coudn't find a pushtug crew. And then they were missing a wingwalker (the people with the orange flashlighty things that direct the planes to park.). Once we finally get in the air, I'm bouncing because I'm getting closer to stellaluna_ with each passing minute. Poor Michelle is not so amused.

We get to LAX, deplane and catch a shuttle with a bajillion other people to pick up the car. Michelle runs out of the bus to try to head to the front of the line, but even then there's at least 20 people in front of her. Both of us are starving and cranky at this point, (9ish pm) and I'm crestfallen cause giant line surely = hours of waiting. Luck was with us and that wasn't the case, so woot. We got a 'Free Upgrade' to a SUV, so I was quite happy sitting up like in my truck. Michelle wasn't, but she got used to it pretty quick. Ventured away to find stellaluna_, and of course, happy me to have her in the same actual physical space as me. We had one day together last year when Sam was here visiting, and by the time that day came to an end, we knew that it was entirely too short.

We rescued her from her apartment and went to Mel's Diner to sit, chat, eat and just be. Much fun, even if diner food is a bit too greasy for my liking. All of us were pleased to get food, and Stel and I got to chat. Michelle started playing with one of her usual tech toys, and although it started out sorta weird, it ended up working out well. It gets late and we have to take Stel home (much to my dismay) and go crash at the hotel.

Bed. Woot. Beds to OURSELVES. (On these trips, bed space has been a premium. I don't mind that for the chance at being able to go cool places, but won't complain when I get a whole bed to myself.) We stayed at a Best Western right near the Hollywood Bowl which totally worked for me. It's not up to Michelle's picky standards, but I'm down with clean, safe and pretty comfortable. It REALLY lacked lighting cause the lamp didn't work, but I really liked where we were and felt safe there. Considering I've felt UNSAFE in places in the middle of nowhere (Moses Lake) I'll happily take this one. So we talk about plans for next day, set up alarm, and crash.

Up next morning, shower, dress, etc. Go off to find the LA County Museum of Art (LACMA) to go see the Magritte/Contemporary Art Exhibit (I like contemporary SO much more than classical, seriously) and to meet back up with Stel. I've got her for at least half the day, and I'm totally determined to enjoy it.

TBC, cause I've got other things to do and we're only on the 2nd day.

BTW, if you want a much better illustrated and more step by step view of the trip, you can check out michelleann68's version (complete with pictures!) here and here. I agree with stellaluna_'s assessment that she and I live entirely too far away and that we had a fabulous time together.

Plans in my head for this year's garden already. :-) New garden setup, with new placement for the vine plants. (up on the hill, for those that know what the yard looks like.)

This year's attempts:
Big pumpkins (Connecticut field)
Mini pumpkins (jack-be-little)
Zuchhini
butternut squash
acorn squash
walla walla onions
mulicolor carrots
sugar peas
green beans
tomatoes
okra
cilantro

Still need to:
pick up the starters (walla walla, tomato)
physically plot new garden area
plan exact planting schemes
hand till the garden spots
prep the planters/pots
