This is just wrenching and painful to read, but there is a flow to it that feels almost poetic. You have some exceptional lines in here:

Neal’s so out of his mind with shock and grief that he’d get himself killed in a heartbeat, and Peter isn’t sure he could keep going without Neal. Not anymore. It wouldn’t be the same.

I love this. Yes.

And the ending is so very in-character. I really love how stark and real Peter's emotions are here. For some reason, I always think of Peter as holding onto things until he gets in the shower. I don't know why, but it works for him as a character, and you did it really well.

Beautiful ficlet! Thank you for sharing.

“Oh, sweetie,” she murmurs, kissing Neal gently on the head, rocking gently. Neal makes a small, broken noise, and Peter just can’t take it. Every little noise Neal makes tears Peter’s heart out as much as if it were El crying, and he doesn’t know what to do with himself.

This is the essence of their entire relationship IMHO. Beautiful. Thank you.

Lovely. I like that Peter instinctively turns to El, knowing that she'll be able to comfort Neal the way he can't.

Oh, Peter! *squishes him so much* I really like this look at his reaction to the explosion, and the parallels between his feelings for El and Neal. <3
