Drabble: "Unwanted Truths" (Mac, Jack PG-13)

Title: Unwanted Truths

Summary: Jack points some things out to Mac.
Disclaimer: Not mine. Property of Jerry Bruckheimer, Alliance Atlantis, CBS, etc. Jack Abernathy is the creation of stellaluna_, and first came into existence in her story "Light from a Dead Star" and decided to take up permanent residence in my head.
A/N: This assumes one of two things: 1.) Jack is still alive, and knows about Mac's current life. 2.) The voice of Jack is another part of himself that Mac is fighting against.
"That boy of yours is a pistol, Chicago. Trouble on the surface, but some real spark. I like him. Reminds me of someone I used to know," he says with a slight smile.
"He's not 'my boy'-- far from it."
Abernathy huffs. "Right. Sure. Not yours. I'll bet dollars to donuts that he's in your bed more nights than not-- although I'm sure it didn't start out that way-- and he's clearly one of the best under your command. Don't try and deny that you don't keep a hawk eye on the kid either."
"I watch them all, Abernathy. They're my people, I'm responsible--"
"No, no. Don't give me that line. I know what it is to have a team to look after, and that sure is hell ain't it. Not the way you watch him. And her." He looks at Mac pointedly.
Mac growls. "Don't bring her into this."
"Why the hell not? Both of them are the only two reasons left standing between you and death, period. That or dumb fucking luck, although I'm pretty sure there might have been a good dose of that too."
