Getting over it

I started thinking about where humor comes from. In my case, it comes from pain. I think that's true of most people, but I'm guessing here. I don't speak for anyone but me, thankfully ( Read more... )

I dunno. I've had friends (some former, some still with me) tell me I should 'get over it' in the past, and that really offends me because to me, it feels like I'm just being dismissed, like I don't really matter, but it's OK for everyone else to spout off at will. I would NEVER tell anybody they need to 'get over it'...even if privately I DID think that's what would be best. I'm not living that person's life, there's no way I can know what they're going through or how they can cope with it.

But that's just my take on it. *shrug*

I don't mean "get over it" dismissively, because that's not dealing, or helpful or even very compassionate.

It's just how I say that eventually we all have to find a constructive way to deal with emotional pain.
